About Andrew

Andrew Schulte is a Chicagoland native who, while studying anatomy for artists at Chicago's American Academy of Art, discovered a fascination with the study of the structure and function of the human body. After receiving a B.F.A in Life Drawing in 2014, he took courses in anatomy, physiology, microbiology and genetics before applying to the Biomedical Visualization graduate program at UIC.

While developing a body of work in BVIS, Andrew became interested in 3D modeling and animation despite a more traditional 2D background. He has been specifically captivated by the visualization of structures at a molecular level.

In addition to this, he is working with Dr. Paul Sereno at the University of Chicago in the virtual reconstruction of Suchomimus tenerensis, a giant theropod dinosaur from the early Cretaceous era.

As the field of biomedical communication continues to grow and adapt to a market that demands state-of-the-art, scientifically accurate visuals, it is becoming increasingly essential that medical animators are well-versed in the latest visualization software and techniques. A medical animation company must seek staff that are not only adept in modern animation processes, but also in working with data and research in order to tell the most accurate story in the most captivating way possible.

In my training at one of the four accredited biomedical visualization graduate programs
in North America, I have become accustomed to multiple aspects of the animation process. These include primary research, script writing, storyboarding, modeling, lighting, rendering and compositing. I find great fascination in the worlds of biology, microbiology, biochemistry, physiology and molecular pharmacology and I would bring this enthusiasm to a biomedical animation studio. In addition to being able to create aesthetically engaging, scientifically sound animation, it is highly beneficial to be able to estimate and track working hours per project as well as exhibit consistent file naming and organization.

These are all valued skills that I have been developing in order to aid clients in telling a story that will most efficiently communicate biomedical and scientific subject matter.
